NISU takes part in Estancia's 106th founding anniversary

Northern Iloilo State University (NISU)—Main Campus showed support to the 106th Founding Anniversary celebration of Estancia through participating in the foot parade and opening program last November 21, 2024.

Led by the university's vice president for academic affairs, Dr. Gilda E. Deguma, faculty, staff, and students of NISU converged at the municipal plaza, showing a strong commitment to community engagement.

NISU delegations actively participated in the foot parade activity in the morning together with DepEd Schools District of Estancia, Estancia organizations and associations, Estancia PNP, barangay officials, Estancia business establishments, BSFA, Estancia Pantat Grower Association, Estancia Fishermen Cooperative, Estancia fraternities and sororities, Bantay Dagat, Estancia ERDERT 058, OSCA, Estancia Coast Guard, Estancia BFP, Lin-Ay sang Iloilo 2024, and LGU employees and officials.

This year’s celebration of the founding anniversary is anchored on the theme "Adlaw sang Estancia: Kulturang Estanciahanon, aton Pasanyugon,” which highlights the importance of celebrating culture, tradition, and community spirit within the municipality.

The said celebration serves as a vital way of expressing initiatives in preserving the traditions and the values that paved the way for the municipality to progress for over a century.

Northern Iloilo State University is deeply mournful of the passing of Dr. Zinnia Parcon Teruel, former Regional Director of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region VI and former Board of Trustee Member of the Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College (now NISU). Her loss leaves an immense void in the hearts of all who had the honor of working with her, and her remarkable contributions to both science and education will be forever remembered.
Throughout her career, Dr. Teruel was a visionary, dedicating her efforts to advancing science, technology, and education in the region. Her impact also extended to higher education, where, as a member of the NIPSC Board of Trustees, she played an instrumental role in shaping the future of the institution. Her legacy continues to inspire and guide future generations of students, faculty, and staff.
During this time of sorrow, we extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, and all who were touched by her presence. Her kindness, selflessness, and ability to inspire others forged enduring relationships with all who were fortunate to know her. While Dr. Teruel may no longer be with us, her legacy will live on through the countless lives she impacted and the lasting difference she made in her community, her country, and the fields of science and education.
May her soul rest in peace. Her leadership, dedication, and compassion will always be cherished, and she will be deeply missed.
